Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar and his party's top officials held a meeting with general chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi at the PBNU headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday (19/6).

Muhaimin did hope that his meeting was part of such support and acknowledgment from the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization over the legality of his party.<>

"Amiin, hopefully this (meeting) is really a support," Muhaimin told reporters.

Muhaimin promised Hasyim that the PKB would recruit 70 percent of NU's best cadres to be named as legislative candidates (caleg) in coming 2009 elections.

"While the remaining 30 percent is from professionals," Muhaimin said, adding that the PKB had now open registration for legislative candidates.

In the meantime, Hasyim reminded Muhaimin of the importance of paying more attention to the clerics and ulemas-initiated party for their sincere services to the ummat. All PKB cadres, he said, should work for the sake of the ummat.

Present also at the meeting were top officials of the PKB such as Lukman Edy (General Secretary/State Minister for Development of Disadvantaged Regions) Erman Suparno (Manpower and Transmigration Minister), Ida Fauziyah and Nursjahbani Katjasungkana (both are chairwomen). (rif)
