General chairwoman of Muslimat NU Hj. Khofifah Indar Parawansa said that she would like to improve health services for patients in hospitals and clinics managed by the NU's women organization.

She was of view most of Islamic hospitals had still been in poor condition especially in dealing with their services to patients.<>

"If compared to the services in other hospitals, Islamic hospitals are the worst. There has been no such smile as alms there," she said as opening a plenary meeting held by Muslimat NU at the PBNU headquarters in Jakarta Thursday (29/1).

Khofifah admitted that at present the competition with other hospitals was increasingly tight. The hospitals would compete with one another in doing their best services to patients so that those incapable of doing their best would likely be left.

She said the hospitals managed by Muslimat NU would not focus on elite circles with high expenses. Any effort aimed at improving its hospitals' services would constantly and gradually be conducted in accordance with its capacity.

In the meantime, Khofifah also said that in addition to improving its health services, Muslimat NU would also pay into account of such educational institutions as kindergarten and early childhood education (PAUD). So far, she added, there had been no both synchronization and standardization in dealing with curricula.

Khofifah also stressed the importance of professionally managing organizations within the Muslimat NU milieu. (mkf)
