Jakarta, NU Online
The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) has called on Nahdliyin (NU followers) throughout the country not to engage in polemics related to the issue of Ahmadiyah. As reported, NU's ulemas have considered that the Ahmadiyah was deviant in Islam.

The statement was one of the excerpts of instruction issued by the PBNU in Jakarta on Friday (6/6). The instruction disseminated to its all NU boards was signed by Rais Syuriyah (chairman of Legislative Board) of the PBNU KH Chotibul Umam, chairman of Executive Board of the PBNU Ahmad Bagdja, and General Secretary of the PBNU Dr. Endang Turmudi.<>

The figures of the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization cited that the issue of Ahmadiyah was nothing to do with the freedom of religion and belief. Rather it was related to the demafation of Islamic teachings.

The PBNU urged the government to soon take such legal measures aimed at handling any anarchic actions in society.

The following are the official views of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) on Ahmadiayh on 9-11 September 2005 in Bogor, West Java:

1. Ahmadiyah is a deviant sect and out of the pale of Islam for not recognizing Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the last messenger of Allah as clearly explained in the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the consensus of ulema. Though it is a true fact, people may not commit such anarchic acts to the activities of Ahmadiyah. The ban on Ahmadiyah teachings and activities is fully in the hand of government and its legal officials and not the authority of individuals or groups.

2. In delivering objections over the existence of Ahmadiyah activities, people are expected to again and again pay more attention to peaceful and elegant ways.

3. Calling on all Muslims to be able to study Islam comprehensively to avoid any misunderstanding and error in interpreting religious teachings.

4. The government is expected to take stand firm and be consistent in dealing with the existence of Ahmadiyah in Indonesia.
