General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi expected the chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar to immediately improve its internal problems.

Hasyim told Muhaimin that the PKB should sincerely carry out a mandate as one of political parties representing most NU followers (Nahdliyin) without ignoring people's mandate of course.<>

"As the representation of the people (ummat), the PKB must be clear; (it's) from people and its existence should be for people, It is now not clear," Hasyim told reporters as meeting with Muhaimin at the PBNU headquarters, Jalan Kramat Raya, Jakarta on Thursday (19/6).

According to Hasyim, if the mandate was not carried out, the people's untrustness to the PKB would increasingly decline.

He was of view that the untrustness was not only to the PKB, but also to other political parties.

The caretaker of Al Hikam Islamic boarding school (pesantren), Malang, East Java, said that the PKB should soon improve its leadership system. As for him, the leadership in the party had yet to function as expected. Whereas, he added, the leadership was the main actor in maintain both stability and performance of the party.

Hasyim also reminded Muhaimin of the importance of paying more attention to the clerics and ulemas-initiated party for their sincere services to the ummat. All PKB cadres, he said, should work for the sake of the ummat.

Present also at the meeting were top officials of the PKB such as Lukman Edy (General Secretary/State Minister for Development of Disadvantaged Regions) Erman Suparno (Manpower and Transmigration Minister), Ida Fauziyah and Nursjahbani Katjasungkana (both are chairwomen). (rif)
