Nahdlatul Ulama has been able to survive from any circumstances because of three things, namely NU has strong social institutions, NU has strong long-standing traditions and NU has clear visions for Indonesia. Nevertheless, NU has also been challenged by ongoing social changes.

Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) H Anmad Bagdja made the remarks on the sidelines of the 4th Annual Meeting of  the Institute for Human Resource Study and Development of Nahdlatul Ulama (Lakpesdam NU) in Malang East Java on 15-20 November 2009.<>

According to Bagdja, in the future, NU should be able to run its organizational functions so that its existence will give contribution to NU followers (Nahdliyin) in particular and Indonesian people in general.

"Let's in the future think about it, networks should (immediately) be built because there have (so far) been many functions of ours ineffective. We have now been challenged by changes,"he said, adding that we need to brilliantly respond to such changes.

Formerly general chairman of PBNU KH Hasyim Muzadi said that PBNU had recently focused on its organization system.  All this, he added, aimed at fulfilling well-managed and strong organizational standards. (nam)
