Islam is religion of peace, blessing for the universe (rahmatan lil alamin). The mission of Islam is promoting peace for the word Islam itself means peace. Islam is opposed to any violence.

"Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that Muslims are the ones whom their neighbors are secure from their hand and tongue," member of the Advisory Council of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH A Muchit Muzadi (Mbah Muchit) told NU Online here on Sunday (21/9).<>

Mbah Muchit made the statement following any existing violent acts within and outside the country recently.

Anti-violence, Mbah Muchit said, was the character of Islam while the violence itself was still permissible in certain conditions based on reinstated rules like giving punishment.

"Good manners, friendliness, and gentleness must always be  in heart," the NU senior figure said.

While the violence in the name of religion may not be committed based on such reason to secure the fasting month.

Mbah Muchit said in accordance with Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) the violence had most of the time related to the morality of those committing the violence. (ary)
