NU headquarters gets bomb threat

The headquarters of the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) received a bomb threat Thursday after someone called in a fake bomb threat.

An identified man called the Nahdlatul Ulama Healthcare Institution (LPKNU) that he would blow up the bomb in 15 minutes.<>

"He said he would set off the bomb in 15 minutes," Abdul Latief, an employee at the headquarters told reporters here Thursday.

Following the threat almost all of NU employees left the building and gathered in the front yard.

The threat was immediately reported to the police. The police then mobilize a Mobile Brigade Gegana Bomb squad to examine any possible hazardous device.

The bomb threat occurred after NU's chair Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) had received visitors from the Carter Center, the U.S. NGO founded by former president Jimmy Carter, to discuss democratic issues and Indonesia's upcoming general elections. (dar)
