General Chairperson of the NU (Nahdlatul Ulemas)’s Women Organization Dra Hj Khofifah Indar Parawansa said that Indonesia’s support to the UNSC Resolution 1747 was seen as a wishy-washy stance.

"We are deeply concerned about the government’s inconsistency in supporting the UN economic sanction on Iran for its refusal to stop its uranium enrichment program," he said on the occasion of the anniversary of the NU Islamic Women’s Organization here on Friday.

She further said that the inconsistency would be unfavourable to this world’s largest archipelagic country, as it might affect other country’s confidence in Indonesia.

"The government was seen as being wishy-washy. When Iranian President and Chairman of the Iranian Supreme Court were on a visit to  Indonesia, they met  President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to explain their country’s nuclear program for peaceful purposes," she said.

But, within one or two months after that Indonesia emerged under  the world spotlight in view of its support to UNSC Resolution  1747 on additional sanctions on Iran for its uranium enrichment program.

Khofifah who is also a legislator of the National Awakening Part said that the NU Islamic Women’s view  on Iran was already raised in the organization’s congress in March. (ant/eko)
