NU was nothing to do with a recent Monas Square incident. NU was instead obliged to take steps to keep and protect harmony and peacefulness among people. In turn NU must reject any kinds of violence.
Chairman of Jember's NU Branch Board KH Muhyiddin Abdusshomad made the remarks at a problem deliberation (bahtsul matsa'il) at Nurul Yakin Mosque, Krajan, Mangli, Kaliwates district on Sunday (15/6).<>
As reported the incident was committed by the Islamic Defenders Front against the masses of the National Alliance for Freedom of Religion and Beliefs (AKKBB) at the National Monument (Monas) Square in Jakarta.
The AKKBB carried out a peaceful activity at the national monument square. But on the sidelines of their activity, around 200 people using FPI attributes suddenly stormed to the Monas Square where the Alliance`s activists were having a peaceful activity.
The FPI masses went after and beat the Alliance`s activists most of whom were women with sticks while shouting anti Ahmadiyah sect`s yells.
Shortly later, security personnel arrived to the site to protect the participants of the National Alliance from the attacks of the FPI cadres.
FPI Demonstration Coordinator Munarman said his side disagreed with the street rally of the AKKBB activists in support of the Ahmadiyah in this country.
In addition, Munarwam also urged the government to immediately carry out the decision of the Public as basis to ban the Ahmadiyah. (ary).
