NU young circles involving themselves in politics should have a high commitment to the truth and the party-based populist struggle. That means those who are and have been active in political parties should have the courage to be committed to facing any possible political risks.
Former speaker of the Golkar Party during the New Order Aisyah Baidlowi made the remarks here on Friday, saying one of the political commitments was not becoming what so-called as "jumping squirrels".r />
"Take me for instance, when the Golkar was blasphemed by many people, I rejected an offer to move to the National Awakening Party (PKB). I think we should not leave the place that makes us famous when it's facing blasphemy," Aisyah said.
The Muslimat NU figure further explained moving from a political party for considerably not giving more personal profits was not a good attitude of a statesman, saying good politicians should be able to keep their honor for staking their political career to save the place where 'they live in'.
"It's even very immoral, in my opinion, if at the time of the fall of New Order I chosen to leave Golkar. For since the beginning I had struggled with Golkar facilities, then I had a responsibility to save the Golkar Party. I could not pretend that during the time I was not satisfied with Golkar," said the sister of former president KH Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur).
Until now, Aisyah has still devoted herself to helping people through one of Golkar's foundations which focuses on helping the disabled. Aisyah said that her activity was a form of her commitment to morality and the honor of a party activist.
"It has been a long time since I no longer involved myself in politics. But it's not my reason to leave the Golkar for not being profitable anymore. I has remained committed to struggling for giving benefits to others, to Indonesian people," she said. (min)
