In dealing with recent issues facing NU and the nation, the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) gathered the leaders of the Nadlatul Ulama Regional Boards (PBNU) across the country to have a coordinating meeting in taking shared vision and ideas.
General chairman of PBNU KH Hasyim Muzadi explained here Tuesday there were three issues discussed in the meeting, namely the NU Congress, NU views related to the legislative election and NU views ahead of the presidential election.<>
He said the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization had decided that the NU 32nd Congress would be held on coming 26-31 January at the Hajj Dormitory South Sulawesi.
"The NU congress will simply be held. But because NU is a big organization, it is still in need of extra preparation and fund," Hasyim said.
He called on all leaders of the NU regional boards to immediately prepare themselves ahead of the mush-awaited congress so that the greatest event of the Nahdliyin-based organization would capable of yielding positive, quality results.
The forum did not come to an agreement in regard with the NU attitudes toward the legislative election. NU was, however, expected to give public especially Nahdliyin (NU followers) directives in terms of the political parties or legislative hopefuls that should be elected in the upcoming election. All this was aimed at anticipating political parties whose certain ideology which may threaten the existence of NU.
In terms of the presidential election, Hasyim said that he would not involve in the election, saying his involvement as the running mate of Megawati in the 2004 presidential election had raised frictions within NU.
While chairman of PBNU H Ahmad Bagdja told NU Online that the meeting was aimed at seeking feedbacks and solutions over various problems facing NU in regions. (mkf)
