PBNU: KPK yet to be fair in dealing with BLBI case

General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi said that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had yet to be fair in dealing with the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) case.
Hasyim said till now the commission has not yet summoned and investigated all former Bank Indonesia officials and members of the House of Representatives allegedly linked to the huge bank loan scandal.<>
"In the Bank Indonesia case, if the KPK has courage to investigate the House members, there would be such a balance between those bribing and being bribed before the court," he told reporters at the PBNU headquarters Jakarta on Thursday (26/2).
In this case he considered there was such politization for till now only certain officials having been summoned and questioned. In addition, the case came into existence in corformity with the new leadership rotation of Bank Indonesia.
Hasyim was of view the KPK was in need of image improvement. The KPK image could be reached by fair and balanced measures in relation to the misappropriation of the BI funds.
Of the misappropriation of BI funds worth Rp 100 billion (US$10.81 million) in question, Rp 68.5 billion was used to hire lawyers for resolution of the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Support (BLBI) case while Rp 31.5 billion was allegedly given to several members of the House during the amendment of the law on finance.
A report from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) indicated more than 10 active and former members of the House were implicated in the graft case. (rif)
