National Awakening Party (PKB) chairman has expressed no worry about the formation of a joint secretariat of coalition partners which is led by his Golkar Party counterpart Aburizal Bakrie.

Muhaimin, who is also the Manpower Minister, said Sunday the joint secretariat was set up to discuss and close a gap among coalition partners.<<>br />
“The [executive chairman] post is just a role commonly played by a coordinator or moderator,” Muhaimin was quoted by tempointeraktif.com on the sidelines of a commemoration of the International Labor Day in Cibitung, east of Bekasi in West Java.

Muhaimin reminded that all coalition partners had to follow the government’s policies. “A coalition always seeks a common ground. If it is split then it’s no longer a coalition,” he said.

He expected the joint secretariat would help the government implement its programs.

Aburizal’s appointment as the executive chairman of the joint secretariat only came a few days after Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati resigned to take up a World Bank managing director post.

Golkar leaders have admitted that Mulyani’s departure from the Cabinet will cool off a long-standing tension between the party and the government over the Bank Century bailout case. (jp/dar)
