In their efforts to determine the suspect, the police still needed to study the case because it was not an ordinary criminal offense, he said.
On Sunday (Nov 6), dozens of people came to the LDII house of worship which they destroyed and torched , eye-witnesses said.
Police have set up a police line around the damaged building. The crowd smashed the mosgue`s tiles, removed the windows and doors and then burned them, and the vandalism took place rapidly, Tlogowero village head Sumadi said, adding that the destruction allegedly happened because the local community did not want a house of worship at the location.
According to him, a similar incident happened in 2007 because the local people could not accept a new house of worship in their village.
In the meantime, chairman of the LDII Tlogowero chapter Tukarman said so far relationships between LDII followers and local residents were running well without any problems.
On Tuesday (Dec 8) the local police questioned a total of 115 people, and 40 of them confessed they had taken part in the attack on the e LDII mosque.
According to him, to determine the suspect the police still need to study, because this is not ordinary criminal cases.
"In an ordinary criminal case it would be easier to identify the suspects. But in this case the police must act cautiously so as not to complicate the problem," he said.
Previously, the LDII said it would seek a legal settlement of the incident although the Temanggung district chief had advised LDII to seek a reconciliation with Tlogowero residents.
"We have met Temanggung district chief Hashim Afandi to clarify the issue and he asked us to reconcile with the residents," Vice Chairman of the LDII Central Executive Board (DPP), Suhartono Riyadi said. (ant)
