President asks ministers to ensure smooth hajj pilgrimage

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono and Religious Affairs Minister Suryhadharma Ali to ensure the readiness of all the related government services for the dispatch of Indonesian citizens on the 2010 hajj pilgrimage.

Speaking before chairing a limited cabinet meeting at his office here on Monday, President Yudhoyono ordered related ministers to build good communication with the House of Representatives (DPR) in a bid to solve the differences and make this year's hajj performance run smoothly.

"I learned from the media that there are differences of view between the government and Parliament. Therefore the related ministers should be proactive and work together for the people without a miscommunication because it will hurt us all," the president said as quoted by Antara news agency.

The president ordered the related ministers to make proactive communication with the DPR because in principle the legislative also wanted hajj performance this year run without any hindrances.

On the occasion the head of state also ordered National Police Chief Gen Bambang Hendarso Danuri to solve the case of several Police top officials who have suspicious bank accounts.

He said the police chief needs to make every effort to solve the ownership of suspicious accounts and prevent the case from spreading.

The president on the occasion admitted to have received so many messages from the people who wanted the truth about the case.

"Please try to solve the problem well," the president said.

The head of state asked the police chief to impose a sanction without hesitation to the top police officials who were later found guilty of having suspicious accounts.

But the National Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri refused to form a special team to trace the alleged ownership of suspicious accounts entailing a number of top police officials.

Bambang said the case was Polri`s internal affairs.

"That is Polri's internal affairs and therefore I do not agree on the formation of a special investigation team, because I have my own team," Bambang said. (dar)
