“I want to remind all of us that the Koran recital competition this year coincides with our plan to build a dignified and excellent nation. A nation that masters science and technology, continues searching for new innovation and is eager to work hard will reach all its dreams,” Yudhoyono said in his speech.

He also called on Muslims in the country to promote Islam as a messenger of peace and justice to the world.

“By advancing the values of Islam, hopefully we can build tolerance, solidarity and togetherness among people of the universe,” the President was quoted by Antara as saying.

The competition features representatives of the country’s 33 provinces. The event will last until June 12. (dar)
