Karanganyar, NU Online
Ansor Youth Chairman Saifullah Yusuf who has joined the United Development Party (PPP) said he would not force Ansor cadres to follow his example.

"Don’t worry about it, let them choose the party they want to join or support. Those who continue to support or remain in the National Awakening Party (PKB) and other parties have the right to do so," said Saifullah who is also State Minister for  Accelerated Development of Disadvanteged Regions on the sidelines of a PPP regional meeting in Karanganyar, Central Java, on Saturday.

Earlier, in a similar event in the presence of PPP Chairman Suryadharma Ali, PPP party jackets were distributed to some new cadres by the chairman of PPP’s Central Java chapter, Ahmad Thoifur.

Those who received PPP jackets were KH Nur Muhammad Iskandar SQ, KH Abdurrahim, KH Abdul Wahid Karim, KH Abdurrasyid and a number of former PKB cadres and some Ansor Youth members. Saifullah had officially received a PPP jacket at a regional meeting of the party’s East Java chapter last week.

"My coming here is only to introduce Kiai Nur," he said. He was referring to the leader of Assidiqiyah KH Nur Muhammad Iskandar SQ who in the past was known as a strong supporter of PKB.

Speaking to participants of the PPP’s East Java regional meeting, Nur said he hoped to make a fresh start in politics by joining the PPP. "Hopefully, I will get something fresh by joining this party," he said. (ant/mad)
