A non-governmental organization has appealed to schools to conduct checks on students` handphones following the spread of a pornographic video of alleged artists.

The chief of the Law Monitoring Institute, Irianto, said he feared the students had accessed the video through internet and kept it in their handphones.<<>br />
"We saw the video is spreading widely in the community. I often saw traders in the markets were watching the video through their handphones, showing that it has been widespread and possibly already reached school students," he said.

Irianto also called on the police to conduct sweep against sales of pirated VCDs or DVDs.

Due to the spread of pornographic video of allegedly celebrities Ariel and Luna Maya and Ariel and Cut Tari many people have been coming to internet shops to see it. Some traders of the local Anyar market and even tricycle drivers here have even claimed they have already downloaded the video into their handphones.

Irianto said he was very concerned about the situation which could affect the younger generation`s morality.

"Ironically many children have asked for money from their parents just to access the video in the internet shop. This is not very good. The authorities concerned must immediately act," he said.

The principal of local school Budi Mulia here has formed a team to conduct an impromptu check on students` handphones. "We have beforehand warned the students not to be affected by the video story. If anyone found to have downloaded the video into his/her handphone he/she will be given a sanction," the principal, Alexius Kasta Blegur said. (ant/dar)
