Venez, Panama Presidents Meet

Venezuelan and Panamanian Presidents Hugo Chavez and Martin Torrijos held official talks on Thursday, when the former arrived as guest of honor for celebrations of the 180th anniversary of the Anfictionico Congress.

"I think the spirit of Latin American unity, inspired by Simon Bolivar, is today stronger than ever," asserted Chavez upon arrival at the International Airport of Tocumen, accompanied by Foreign Minister Ali Rodriguez.

Later, Chavez met with counterpart Martin Torrijos, in presence of Panamanian First Vice President and Foreign Minister Samuel Lewis Navarro, and Trade and Industries Minister Alejandro Ferrer, and other officials.

Both statesmen laid a wreath at the monument to Liberator Simon Bolivar in Panama City. They are expected to sign cooperation agreements, according to government sources.

Chavez will address the National Assembly before attending a reception offered by representatives at the University of Panama. (pl/dar)
