West Java wins MTQN in Bengkulu

West Java provincial Quran reciters group won the 23rd National Quran Reciting Contest (MTQN) here, Saturday, setting aside Jakarta`s Quran reciters, last year`s champions, to the second place

The MTQN opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono last Saturday (June 5) at the Anak Dalam sports stadium in Bengkulu city, and participated in by around 2,430 kafilahs (Quran reciters) from all over Indonesia, was closed by Vice President Boediono on Saturday (June 12).r />
In the meantime, Banten province was third, followed by Riau Islands province in the fourth position, West Sumatra in the fifth place.

Riau province, which shares a border with the Riau Islands province, was sixth followed by Bengkulu in the seventh position, Bengkulu governor, Agusrin Nadjamudin, said adding that in the 22nd MTQN held in Banten province last year, Bengkulu only stood at 22nd position.

Meanwhile, West Papua, the most-eastern province of the 33 provinces in the country, stood at 8th position in the one-week event. (dar)
