The Central Board of Islamic boarding “pesantren” school association (RMI) will conduct a training on information technology (IT) for students of pesantrens in addressing their required needs.

The training will focus on both computer maintenance and introduction of what called as international “internet” network. The prospective program would reportedly be conducted in the mid of  next February.

<>The association expected to be able to at least produce technicians enable to maintain computers in Islamic boarding schools and to widely access information through the cyber space.

“At present, there are many Islamic boarding schools cashing in on the benefits of computer as a supporting tool for (school) administration and learning and teaching process,” the vice secretary Sultan Fathoni told NU Online Friday (12/1).

He further explained that “numbers of pesantrens have now been able to publish such magazines, local newspaper, and books. That’s why he suggested that the program was absolutely a brilliant solution.

Dealing with the introduction of internet, Sultan added, it could be used to enrich knowledge and socialize pesantren’s treasures.

“Pesantrens have now had computer and phone line. These two tools can be maximized by profiting from internet in pesantrens. In turn, everyday the pesantrens’ circles can update information and introduce their traditions trough the cyber space,” he said. (nam)
