Wafa Elected to be General Chairwoman of IPPNU

Nahdlatul Ulama Girl Students Association (IPPNU) Congress, Wednesday (12/7), at 05.15 am was closed by singing IPPNU Marching Tune, together with rap of the gavel, marking appointment of Wafa Patria Ummah as General Chairwoman of the coming 2006-2009 IPPNU period. 

Wafa, a cadre from Jombang, East Java, receiving 165 votes from all IPPNU Regional and Branch Boards throughout Indonesia, defeated Lia Suci Mulyawati (Banten), that receives 100 votes.

“We give the souvenir to the fresh leader of IPPNU by expecting all that we said about forming of cadres and consolidation in regions are not merely high sounding promises,” said one of Papuan delegates after the official announcement.

The elected general chairwoman, then, arranges new Central Board of IPPNU, accompanied by two former general chairwomen and 7 people from regional board in accordance with Indonesian time, namely 2 (East Indonesian Time/WIT), 2 (Central Indonesian Time/WITA), and 3 (West Indonesian Time/WIB).

Previously, before congress participants from 26 provinces and 240 branches throughout Indonesia, Wafa promised, she would make forming of cadres as the main program that is expectedly to realized within the first year of leadership.

“Next, we will conduct road show to regions to monitor the developments of IPPNU there. We are now in cadre crisis,” Wafa said while delivering oration before elections.

She said, at present many youth organizations have shown their own roles and almost made IPPNU disappear from its role. “Hopefully, we have more self confidence face the others,” Wafa said. (nam)
