Nahdlatul Ulama has a very distinctive organizational symbol. The inscription "Nahdlatul Ulama" in the symbol designed by Kiai Ridwan Abdullah is combined with nine stars, a rope, and a picture of the earth. The position of the earth image is very dominant for being positioned in the middle of the logo. This image of the earth is also colored with the equator line taken from the letter 'dlad' in the word of 'Nahdlatul Ulama.

Regarding the NU symbol, the mustasyar of the Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Board (PCNU) of Pringsewu, Lampung, KH Sujadi, analogized the image of earth on the NU symbol as a sphere. According to him, this is a benefit if we can process it well and vice versa, it can be a disadvantage if we don't maintain and use it properly.

"If we can play the ball (globe), then we will be able to bring it into prosperity. But if we can't play the ball, then we will be played. We will be kicked there, kick here," he said in a NU Online Youtube video, Saturday (22/1/2022).

"It might even be an own goal, because we can't manage the ball itself," added the alumnus of the Al-Asy'ariyah Islamic Boarding School, Kalibeber, Wonosobo, Central Java.

To manage this, according to the man who is familiarly called Abah Jadi, NU members (Nahdliyin) especially the younger generation of NU, must possess and maintain two important things that have been inherited by NU Muslim scholars, namely spirituality and mentality. These two things have been trained by the kiai (clerics) and Muslim scholars to the students (santri) dealing with the discipline of learning and worship so that they could become such a capital in facing the future.

"So that when students have high spirituality and mentality, they will be possible to become a strong support to take a strong mentality," explained the santri who became the Regent of Pringsewu.

To be able to process this ball well, he advised the younger generation of NU to always be active in studying, not just religious knowledge or certain knowledge. With this variety of knowledge, the younger generation would be able to adapt well to the times. With this capital, the younger generation of NU would not be easily surprised and reactive to the developing phenomena.

“Ojo dadi wong gumunan (don't be a person who is easily surprised). When you see something different, don't be easy and immediately convict him of being guilty. It's possible your 'picnic' (experience) isn't yet so far," he said.

The younger generation of NU must adhere to the principle having always been held by Nahdlatul Ulama, namely "Al Mukhafadzatu alal Qadimis Shalih wal Akhdu bil Jadidil Ashlah" which is to always keep the good old things and always adopt new and better things. "Santri must continue to have ideas and creativity," he said.
