President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday (15/11) evening that clerics and religious leaders play a major role in the defense of national and Islamic values as well as values of the Islamic Revolution.

Addressing a group of Shi'a and Sunni clerics in this western provincial city, the president said that the world was looking to Iran as an example of right living and for answers to questions which man-made institutions or schools of thought have failed to answer.

<>"All man-made schools of thought including Marxism and Communism have disappointed their followers as they have reached the end of the line but their problems remain unsolved," Ahmadinejad said.

He added that world nations now expect answers from Islam and Iran as to ways of bailing themselves out of their current problems.

President Ahmadinejad arrived in Sanandaj, capital of western Kordestan province, on Wednesday for his 21st visit to various provinces of the country since he assumed office last year.

He and his cabinet have already visited the provinces of Tehran South Khorasan, Sistan-Baluchestan, Ilam, Qom, Hormuzgan, Bushehr, Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari, Lorestan, Golestan, Kohgilouyeh-Boyer Ahmad and Khorasan Razavi, Zanjan, Markazi, Qazvin and Hamedan, East Azarbaijan, North Khorasan and Ardebil.
