The Nahdlatul Ulama Colleges Association (APTINU) has called on new NU leadership (outcome of the NU 32nd congress in Makassar) to focus more on education sectors. This is considerably very important for NU to have high-quality and competitive human resources.

"Without colleges, NU will in turn become an organization having no competitiveness," chairman of APTINU Dr Noor Achmad MA made the remarks at a press conference here Thursday.r />
For that reason, he urged the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) to take concrete steps and cooperate with the government to pay more attention the NU colleges already amounted to some 201 ones throughout the country.

APTINU, he added, would always work hard in developing NU colleges throughout the country.

"In such regions as Sumatra and Kalimantan (for instance), there have not yet been NU colleges, moreover in the land of Papua," he said.

Noor Achmad, accompanied by secretary of APTINU Drs HM Mujid Qulyubi MH, expressed his deep concern about the government policy for restricting and even banning parties from establishing colleges including restricting the opening of the faculty of medicine and education.

"From the 201 NU colleges, there is only one having the faculty of medicine, namely Islamic University of Malang (UNISMA)," Noor Achmad said.

He expected the government to give both permission and easiness for establishing NU colleges, saying that to meet this goal there should be significant roles and measures that should be taken by PBNU.

"Also, we ask the Department of National Education and the Department of Religious Affairs to support any effort aimed at increasing NU human resources,"he said. (was)
