The prominent young Islamic scholar (ulema) who is also member of the Egyptian Fatwa Council (Darul Iftal Mashriyyah) Syaikh Amr al-Wardani expressed his appreciation to the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization for being able to seed tolerant views to non-Muslims.
ï really feel amazed and salute to NU for in addition to being the largest Muslim organization in Indonesia and even the world, NU also has good and tolerant ways of thinking related to non-Muslims," Wardani said.

He further explained that NU had such concepts as ukhuwah Islamiyah (brotherhood among Muslims), ukhuwah wathaniyah (brotherhood among people of the same nation) and ukhuwah bashariyah (brotherhood among all human beings), adding that the concepts having so far been preserved by the organization would not view non-Muslims as enemy.
Wardani said that NU had been able to develop its moderate and tolerant views in Indonesia in particular and in the world in general.
"NU has even considered non-Muslims as partners and brothers as well," he said, adding that NU had most of the time involved itself in dealing with any problem facing non-Muslims or the minority in the country. (ags)
