Former General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid said that a prospective leader should have such criteria such as sincere, highly dedicated and widely experienced figure.
"The most important thing to heed in electing a figure is not too many criteria, but focus on a sincere, highly dedicated, and widely experienced figure as a future leader," Gus Dur told reporters after a meeting at the Al Falah II Islamic Boarding Scool (Pesantren) in Bandung on Tuesday (5/1).<>
The caretaker of Pesantren Ciganjur also appealed to civil servants not to be involved in politics, as it was an established rule of the game.
In the meantime, the Chairman of the National Awakening Party’s (PKB) Advisory Board called on members of the Nahdlatul Ulema organization engaged in politics to abide by the decision of their party in electing a prospective leader of their respective regions.
"If they represent the PKB, the choice should be given to a figure nominated by their party. If there is no PKB member, just elect a figure supported by the PKB," Gus Dur said. (ant)
