General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama, KH Hasyim Muzadi said here on Thursday that the real factor behind the sectarian conflict between Hamas and Fatah in Palestine was caused by Israeli provocation.

“The conflict between both Hamas and Fatah didn’t come into existence by themselves but it was caused by the Israeli provocation,” Hasyim told a number of members of Iranian parliament in the NU office Jakarta.<>

He expressed the statement above following his meeting with scores of Sunni and Shiite Muslim figures in Libanon several days ago while visiting Middle East countries to campaign purposeful ideas in overcoming the sectarian conflict.

Hasyim met with the President of Syiria Basyar Asad and Vice President Farouq Al Syara. Libanon’s Religious Affairs Minister Sheikh Muhammad Rosyid Kabbany. Libanon’s Shiite prominent man Shekh Amir Qolabany and the Rector of Libanon International University Dr Ahmad Husan.

According to Hasyim Israel had absolutely provoked Palestine’s Muslim groups to be then easily divided. He added the Zionist country was afraid of the unity of Palestine and Islamic countries across the world.

“They are not of sophisticated weapons, but they are afraid of the unity of Muslims,” The president of World Conference on Religion for Peace said.

That’s why, the leader of Islamic baording ”pesantren” school Al Hikam Malang added, it’s inevitable to immediately build a mutual understanding between Muslims all over the world and end the bloody conflict. In this respect, he proposed to conduct a meeting in addressing the crucial issues.

“For that reason, we (Nahdlatul Ulama) want to conduct such a meeting aimed at settling conflicts within Muslim community. The stigma of Sunni-Shiite conflict in Iraq (for instance) should be changed that the Iraqis have taken a stand against aggressors,” Hasyim said. (rif)
