KH Ma'ruf Amin ready to be nominated as Rais Aam

Chairman of the advisory board (syuriyah) of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Ma'ruf Amin said that he would be ready to be nominated as Rais Aam (general chairman) of syuriah of the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization.
Ï have long time devoted myself to NU and I am already to be placed in any position for all this is a mandate that should be carried out," he said here Thursday.r />
Kiai Ma'ruf explained that NU was a ulema organization and therefore any position including Rais Aam should be chosen by ulema who were factual-empirically the key actors of the founding of the Nahdliyin-based organization.
In regard with discourse of the importance of returning the role of syuriah to its track, Ma'ruf said that he did agree with such discourse.
"NU constitutes a ulema movement and is not either a political or cultural movement. So, it should be controlled by ulema,"he said.
In terms of his position as member of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres), Ma'ruf made sure his position in the council would not make the NU feel inferior before the government.
Ma'ruf added that he had no longer involved himself in the Ulema National Awakening Party (PKNU) as one of advisers of the political party.
Responding to many figures nominates as general chairman of the tanfidziyah (the executive board) and Rais Aam candidates, Ma'ruf said that the scene was part of the dynamics in the congress arena.
"This is part of the congress dynamics. As long as not opposing to polite ad good manners, that's not problem,"he said.
While, KH Amin, member of the supreme council of the Banten NU Regional Board (PWNU) said that KH Ma'ruf Amin was appropriate figure to be positioned as Rais Aam, adding that Ma'ruf had so far been capable of carrying out his duties at the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and the one constantly voicing the importance of maintaining and preserving what so-called as fikrah nahdliyyah as the basis of Nahdiyin (NU followers) in thinking, acting and behaving.
The same opinion was also expressed by deputy secretary of the advisory board (katib aam) of the Lampung's PWNU, KH Ishom that KH Ma'ruf Amin was the best man to be mandated as Rais Aam in the organization. (mkf)
