Kiai Jauhari: Clerics not to involve themselves in politics

The leader of Islamic boarding "Pesantren" school Assunniyah, Kencong, Jember, East Java, KH Sadid Jauhari called on clerics not to involve themselves in politics due to his deeply concerns over the decline of pesantrens' quality.

"Please back to the stable to pay more attention to Islamic "madrasah" schools and pesantren. because of the roles of clerics, the future of nation's generation would be pawned. If this is ignored, educational world in the pesantrens would constantly decline," he said.<>

The statement above was a crucial issue at an ulema meeting at Pesantren Edi Mancoro, Gedangan, Tuntang, Semarang, Saturday (10/2).

Scores of NU clerics such as KH Habib Lutfhi bin Yahya (Pekalongan), KH Mustofa "Gus Mus" Bisri (Rembang) and the General Chairman of the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization KH Hasyim Muzadi viewed the same matter as the most important thing to soon be addressed.

Those attending at the occasion said the problem had since long time become such a crucial one that was hard to cope especially for clerics whose no consistency in maintaining the existence of pesantrens.

Many have become richmen for their involvement in political parties and preaching in any TV stations. (ansor)
