Jakarta, NU Online
Japan's social and religious researcher Mitsuo Nakamura suggested that the moderation of the country's largest Muslim organization NU was not new thing. This character has come into existence from a long time ago.
"Even since its beginning of establishing, NU has really been moderate," Nakamura said in the second International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) at Jakarta's Borobudur Hotel, Wednesday (21/6).
<>NU moderation, according to Nakamura, could not be released from the deeply rooted "Ahlussunnah wal jamaah" ideology. "Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah supported by NU is up to now one of many factors asserting why NU still regarded as moderate organization," said Nakamura. He expected that NU as moderate organization respecting justice and peace, should all of the time maintain dan preserve the character in the midts of internal conflict among muslims.
"NU needs to continue preserving and maintaining the tradition as the tipically character and the identity of NU's. for that reason, NU has the very natural lines of thought," Nakamura said. (rif)
