The Nadlatul Ulama Students Association (IPNU) called on the NU congress to issue recommendations on the increasing of radicalism among students, saying that it would be neutral in the NU leadership election.

"IPNU also urge the government to review the issuance of a joint ministeral decree (SKB) signed by three ministers, namely minister of national education, minister of religious affairs, and minister of youth and sports on the Intra-School Student Organization (OSIS) as the only intra-school organization," chairman of IPNU Ahmad Syauqi told reporters here Friday.

Syauqi said that the issuance of the decree would give more easiness for those willing to propagate radical religious thoughts through what called as rokhis (such an organization designed to carry out religious activities).

According to Syauqi, IPNU and other student organizations should have taken part in schools as balancing powers in dealing with religious radicalism among students especially those studting at state or public schools.

In regard with the succession of NU chairmanship, IPNU would hand over everything to NU senior clerics, ulema and participants of the congress.

"We believe, the best NU cadres will come without doing money politics to attract symphaty and support. I think there is more important thing instead of matters dealing with the candidacy," he said, adding that NU should focus more on education especially how to increase quality of Nahdliyin (NU followers).

"All this is aimed at preparing NU cadres to expectedly be capable of competing in both the national and international level," Syauqi said. (dar)
