President hopes ulemas` counsel make Muslims` life noble

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said counsels from ulemas should make Muslims including state officials aware of their duties to have a worthy life and carry out people`s mandate honestly.
"Advices from ulemas should change Muslims` way of life so that they can show noble attitudes and morals," the head of state told a meeting of Jakarta ulemas and respectful Islamic elders at the Islamic Center building here Sunday.<>
As reported by Antara news agency, the function was attended by over 1,000 Muslims as well.
Ulemas` advices would not make people in the predominantly Muslim-Indonesia live a dishonorable life, Yudhoyono said.
State leaders and officials, president said, were facing heavy challenges in exercising their duties so that they had to work earnestly in carrying out the people`s mandate.
The head of state also said Muslims should have a habit of looking into their own thoughts and feelings to make them realize the importance of making good conversations and showing good behavior, he said.
"Muslims who belong to the majority group in Indonesia should be able to determine what is good and bad. Moreover, the majority people should not be provoked easily by malicious talks," he said.
Yudhoyono encouraged the people to seek solutions to problems being faced by the country and asked political elite groups to help people find solutions rather than inciting them.
"We should not use our time only to make slanderous remarks, lest multidimensional crises including moral degradation will never leave us," he said. (dar)
