Islamic Boarding “Pesantren” School constitutes a cultural institution, handling many things related to the needs of social surroundings. It has recently narrowed to be educational institutional only.

“Alhamdulillah, there are now many pesantrens, possessing such hospitals and promoting cooperation,” Said the Under-Developed Regions Developments Minister, Saifullah Yusuf, as speaking to Congress participants in the Pesantren Darun Najah, South Jakarta, Monday (11/7).

In accomplishing program of accelerating developments and empowering economy, the state needs social institutions that enable people to help program implementation. Yusuf said at present pesantrens are expected to be main facilitators to make state’s programs address social interests.

More than that, according to Yusuf, the pesantrens are expected to contribute energy and thought to empower social surroundings independently. “What are now pesantrens contribute to the people,” Yusuf asked.

In his short speech, Yusuf called on NU girl cadres to take an important role in making state’s program succesfull, especially that related to the under-developed regions developments. “And of course, each region has its own needs,” said Yusuf to congress participants from 27 provinces.

Dealing with the typical matter facing IPPNU activists due to the spirit weakness of involving themselves in organization after getting married, Yusuf added, that’s understandable and is not an excuse.  (nam)
