The Governor of Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) Rusdy Mastura together with the Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Boad (PWNU) of Central Sulawesi KH Lukman S Thahir paid a visit to the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) on Monday (6/12/2021).

The governor entourage was received by the General Chairman of PBNU, KH Said Aqil Siroj. The visit was to convey a land grant from the Governor to the PWNU Central Sulawesi covering an area of five hectares for the construction of the Nahdlatul Ulama University (UNU) of Central Sulawesi. The land is located in Kawatuna Village, Mantikulore District, Palu City.

"I have searched for five hectares of land for the construction of the Nahdlatul Ulama campus. This aims to improve the quality of education there," Governor Rusdy told Kiai Said.

Governor Rusdy claimed to have closeness to NU. Because he has many brothers who are active in NU such as Muslimat and the Indonesian Muslim Cultural Arts Institute (Lesbumi).

"I have an older brother who is an administrator for Muslimat and Lesbumi. That was when I was little," he said.

Kiai Said appreciated the grant of the land to build the NU campus. He hoped that in the future NU universities in Central Sulawesi would become a momentum for intellectual and educational equity.

"There is still a gap in our education between Jakarta and the regions. Hopefully, with the UNUs in Central Sulawesi, there could be intellectual and educational equity in Indonesia," Kiai Said told Governor Rusdy.

The leader of the Pesantren Luhur Al Tsaqafah in Ciganjur, South Jakarta then quoted QS Adz-Dzariyat verse 19. In his meaning, Kiai Said invited NU members to become rich people but had to provide life guarantees to people who were not financially capable.

"So please be rich, but don't forget that your wealth belongs to the poor," said the kiai who was born in Cirebon, West Java, 68 years ago.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the PWNU Central Sulawesi KH Lukman S Thahir stated that this land grant was an answer to his longing to have a NU campus there, admitting that Governor Rusdy was a person who cares about education.

"This is actually a part of the governor (attention to NU)," said Kiai Lukman.

He explained that PWNU together with the Central Sulawesi Provincial Government would only build the project from scratch.

Kiai Lukman hoped that Governor Rusdy would not only provide land grant but also assist development by procuring the budget. However, Kiai Lukman did not feel worried because the Head of the Central Sulawesi UNU Construction was one of the Expert Team for the Governor of Central Sulawesi, namely Ronny Tanusaputra.

"Actually he (the Governor of Central Sulawesi) has long planned to help NU (build universities). Thank God now he can give five hectares. If possible later, we will also build a NU headquarters there," he said.

After the meeting, Kiai Said was asked to sign the PWNU Decree regarding the Structure of the Construction Committee for the Nahdlatul Ulama University in Central Sulawesi.
