KH Miftachul Akhyar appointed as Rais Aam of PBNU 2021-2026

KH Miftachul Akhyar (Kiai Miftach) was appointed as the supreme leader (Rais Aam) of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) 2021-2026. This was decided through deliberative and consensus process of nine members of the so-called Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi (Ahwa).

 

The decision was made at the Plenary Session IV led by chairman and secretary of the Steering Committee for the NU 34th Congress Prof Muhammad Nuh and H Asrorun Niam Sholeh at the Multipurpose Building (GSG) University of Lampung (Unila) on Thursday (23/12/2021) night.

 

"Alhamdulillah, (based on the decision of) Ahwa , that the Rais Aam of PBNU 2021-2026 is Almukarram KH Miftachul Akhyar," said KH Zainal Abidin, one of the Ahwa members.

 

There are views from the Ahwa Members, it is hoped that Rais Aam will focus on fostering and developing NU in the future. "Then he (Rais Aam-elect) said, sami'na wa atha'na (we hear and we obey)," said the professor at the Palu's State Islamic Institute (IAIN).

 

Secondly, he continued, the consideration of other Ahwa members was that Rais Aam was expected to to welcome candidates that would be elected as the chairman of tanfidziyah. Of course, if they meet the requirements as stipulated at the AD/ART.

 

"Sami'na wa atha'na," said Kiai Miftach.

 

The nine prominent clerics are (1) KH Dimyati Rois, (2) KH Ahmad Mustofa Bisri, (3) KH Ma'ruf Amin, (4) KH Anwar Manshur, (5) TGH Turmudzi Badaruddin, (6) KH MIftachul Akhyar, ( 7) KH Nurul Huda Jazuli, (8) KH Ali Akbar Marbun, and (9) KH Zainal Abidin.

 

The deliberation littered fully with such values as intimacy, kinship, civility, courtesy, and character was led by KH. Ma'ruf Amin (Kiai Ma'ruf) who is also the vice president of Indonesia.

 

When KH. Mustofa Bisri (Gus Mus) was asked for his views, he spoke nothing for considering that there was someone who was older and more virtuous namely KH Dimyathi Rais (Abah Dimyati). Even Abah Dim, also spoke nothing because there was Kiai Ma'ruf.

 

In the end, explained Kiai Zainal, he was the youngest to start delivering his views on the condition that the others also deliver their respective arguments.

 

It should be noted, that Article 40 Paragraph 1 of the results of the 2015 NU 33rd Congress in Jombang stipulates that the election of Rais 'Aam of PBNU is determined through nine Ahwa members.

 

The nine Ahwa members were proposed by the congress, the congress participants representing the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Management (PWNU), Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Management (PCNU), and Nahdlatul Ulama Special Branch Management (PCINU).

 

Kiai Miftach was previously elected as Rais Aam as an interim official to continue the leadership of KH Ma'ruf Amin who resigned on September 22, 2018. He also served as Rais Syuriyah at PWNU of East Java for two terms and Rais Syuriyah at PCNU of Surabaya.
