PBNU Condemns Hoarder of Medicines and Medical Devices

The Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) firmly condemns the hoarders of medicines and medical devices. This action is very detrimental and oppresses the community, especially those affected by Covid-19. PBNU's stance is contained in a circular issued in response to the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia.

"The act of hoarding medicines, medical equipment, including oxygen and so on, or any other action to take financial advantages of the Covid-19 pandemic which results in harming other parties, especially the loss for the victims of the Covid-19 pandemic is injustice. PBNU strongly condemns this action," mentioned in PBNU circular issued on Wednesday (14/7).

In addition, PBNU asked the government to give serious attention to children who are victims of Covid-19. Therefore, PBNU encourages the government to continue to increase the socialization of Covid-19, especially regarding the risk of children who are vulnerable to infection.

"Current conditions, many children are victims of Covid-19. Therefore, PBNU hopes that the government will further increase socialization related to Covid-19, especially the risk of children contracting Covid-19, and if there are Covid-19 patients from children to get serious attention," as mentioned in circular letter number 6 point a.

Meanwhile, in point b, PBNU assesses that during the Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) period until July 20, 2021, the government must add vaccination service centers. More than that, the government also needs to make the public understand about Covid-19 vaccination and cooperate with various parties.

For information, the government has increased the number of Covid-19 vaccination targets to 26,711,255 people through the Ministry of Health. Thus, the current total target for vaccination is 208,265,720 from the original 181,554,465 people.

The latest vaccination targets consist of five stages. First, for health workers, as many as 1,468,764 people; second, there are 17,327,167 public officers; third, the elderly group is 21,553,118 people; fourth, the general and vulnerable people are 141,211,181 people; and fifth, youth aged 12-17 years 26,705,490 people.

As reported by the official website of the Covid-19 Handling Task Force, on July 13, 2021, 546,416 people received the first dose of vaccine, while 154,530 people received the second dose of vaccine. Thus, 36,914,607 people have been vaccinated with the first dose and 15,190,998 people who have received the second dose of vaccine.
