Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Kanasugi Kenji visited the headquarters of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Kramat Raya Street 164, Jakarta, Tuesday (1/3/2022). The General Chairman of the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Yahya Cholil Staquf received the visit directly.

On that occasion, Kanasugi said that Indonesia needs to appear in promoting moderation considering the current world is filled with radicalism.

"Indonesia needs to promote moderation because Indonesia is the most populous Muslim-majority country and the country with the largest democracy in the world as well," he said.

Moreover, NU, he said, provides a touch of stability for Indonesia citizens. Kenji also encouraged Indonesia as the President of the G-20 to take on its role in global conflict, especially the feud between Russia and Ukraine.

In response to this, Gus Yahya, General Chairman of PBNU's nickname, said that NU currently has an agenda focused on international issues, particularly those concerning Islam.

He also emphasized that, currently, NU continues to move forward in the region to provide solutions for world peace and civilization.

"NU is determined to move to contribute in providing solutions for the international community," said the caretaker of the Raudlatut Thalibin Islamic Boarding School, Leteh, Rembang, Central Java.

Responding to the issue of Russia and Ukraine, Gus Yahya has also provided input to the relevant ministers. He also hoped that both sides would stop using violent means.

Gus Yahya also said that Japan has a strategic position, especially in the Pacific region. "I believe that Japan has a special position, especially in the Pacific region, considering that Japan is an actor," Gus Yahya said.

He also emphasized that the new world order needs to be based on freedom and social justice. "Without this, we are back in the wilderness of who is the strongest competition," he said.

At the meeting, the Japanese Ambassador told that his party visited several Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, especially in Jombang, to be exact at the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School. He called it the pesantren of President (KH Abdurrahman) Wahid.

He also wanted to bring back several teachers from Islamic boarding schools to introduce moderate Islam to the Muslim community in Japan.
