The United States (US) would never entrust its problems of providing food to other countries. If it urged the developing countries say that Indonesia to put aside agriculture and focus in turn on industrial sector, it means that the Super Power made the agriculture as the most important sector to maintain its national defense.
“So the US says that ‘we can no longer hand over the stomach matters to any others’,” Vice Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board of the special Region of Yogyakarta KH Mochammad Maksum told NU Online in Jakarta while attending the preparation of ulema national conference on July 27-30 ahead, (15/7).
<>The US realized, he added, that food problems was an effective way to encounter terrorism. Following the terrorist act on Sept 11 2001, the US established such a Department of Homeland Security that was aimed at protecting its agriculture and farmlands.
“They have a thorough decree set up to anticipate a terror dealing with the food problems. How the advanced country prioritize its agriculture sector,” Maksum said.
The lecturer at Gajah Mada University Yogyakarta argued that the efforts developed by the US to the developing countries were by disseminating theories and even imposing such a “verdict” that agriculture could no longer produce large advantage. “Put aside please the agriculture and return to the industry.”
“As the last man in the ideological fierce battle between capitalism and communism, the US with its all dogmas that in turn become just one have automatically been imposed to us to be developed and we ourselves ignore our agriculture,” Maksum said.
As a result, the Indonesia’s agriculture was not interesting and under-developed. They have all of the time campaigned that the agriculture is not better than anything else. The conviction has also been supported by the evolving sciences.
“Whereas, the theories set up by Francis Fucuyama and his friends were unproven. We should think how the science to be an ideology and pro-agriculture,” Maksum added. (nam)
