Anas Expects IPNU to be more Brilliant

It is no exaggeration to say if the former cadre of an organization has still paid attention to his organization. Abdullah Azwar Anas is one of those who always follows the development of Nahdlatul Ulama Students Association (IPNU), an organization which has ever made his name great.

Following the IPNU Kongress XV in Jakarta, 9-12 July ahead, he expected IPNU cadres to be more brilliant in defining and responding to problems facing Indonesia, especially that related to social and education.

“Next IPNU should be brilliant in defining nation’s problems comprehensively and specifically in defining nation’s problems in the context of youth-education,” Anas said to NU Online in PBNU Building, Jln Kramat Raya 164 Jakarta, Friday (7/7).

Anas hoped IPNU to be able to respond more quickly to social and educational issues. Thus, the existence of IPNU would be felt by people, whether in or out of schools.  

In the social field, Anas said, actually IPNU has big potentials to participate more in handling earthquakes in Indonesia recently. Development Brigade Corps (CBP) belongs to IPNU, according to Anas, can be maximalized to assist systematically quake’s victims.

“Many problems facing Indonesians, such as numerous quakes. These need extra power of all Indonesians to perform such a movement systematically in addressing the quakes and undertaking trainings for quake’s victims or public education. In terms of the case, IPNU has to participate in handling the problems,” Anas said.

Anas also expected the Congress to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National search and Rescue Council (Basarnas). He suggested that Basarnas has agreed to sign the accord in handling earthquake with IPNU. Both of them were expected to conduct intensive trainings in addressing quake problems. 

“All kinds of quakes are now being in Indonesia. In order that the step to face the quake more systematically, I expect the committee to prepare MoU with Basarnas in congress arena. Later, there will be trainings to handle quakes in cooperation with Banarbas. So far there is no systematically handling. All start reacting,” Anas said. (rif)
