President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is expected to open the 32nd Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) national conference here on Tuesday (March 23), South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo said.

At the meeting that lasted nearly three hours, the governor told the students that the NU conference would be a grand forum with religious nuances.
"The meeting was held to explain about the NU conference and about the president`s position. I hope the conference will not lead to trouble. I would be grateful if the conference runs peacefully. The students gave a good response and know well how to be good hosts," the governor said.
Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo said the government would not suppress the students` dynamism but they (students) were expected to remain in a state of mind that would not bring harm.
NU which is one of the biggest Islamic organizations in the country plans to hold a conference in Makassar, South Sulawesi province, next week to elect a new leader, among other things. (ant/dar)
