A score of Puerto Rican organizations have called on the international community to develop mechanisms of pressure to stop "State terrorism" launched by Israel against Palestine and Lebanon.

In a statement Friday, they also urged government and international bodies to act in order to achieve peace with justice for the Middle East and the whole planet, and termed unacceptable any military invasion and occupation of any sovereign country of the world.

"There is no moral or legal reason for the collective punishment of the Palestinians and the Lebanese civil population," they said.

"We cannot remain indifferent to the mass killing of bombarded human beings and the war crimes committed by the Israeli government, with total impunity and amid world powers' conspiratorial silence," they stressed.

The statement demands a more active, efficient and firm UN role, and demanded from all members of the UN General Assembly to pay attention to the conflict and establish necessary conditions to reach a negotiated solution.

Organizations signing the text include Proyecto Caribeno de Justicia y Paz, Madres contra la Guerra, Pueblo Contra la Guerra and Coalicion Ciudadana Contra el Militarismo, among others. (pl/dar)
