The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) stated that it would support the steps of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbud-Ristek) in perfecting Permendikbud No. 30 of 2021 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) in Higher Education.

The General Chairman of PBNU KH Said Aqil Siroj (Kiai Said) made the statement when receiving a visit of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Anwar Makarim at the PBNU headquarters, Jl Kramat Raya, Central Jakarta, Monday (22/11/2021).

Kiai Said admitted that PBNU basically supported the issuance of the PPKS permendibud, but because there were still several points and articles that made the regulation weak, he advised Minister Nadiem to improve it.

"Regarding the PPKS Permendikbud, basically we (NU) support it. However there are some points that need to be revised so that they are really qualified to build a civilized nation according to the number one principle in Pancasila," he said.

The leader of the Al-Tsaqafah Ciganjur Islamic Boarding School (pesantren), Jagakarsa, South Jakarta explained that sexual crimes according to Pancasila norms were related to religion or belief, not based on consensual agreement.

“Because sexual violence with or without consensual agreement in religious norms is prohibited. Moreover, (in terms of) sexual relations outside of marriage for whatever reason religion does not justify it. All religions," explained Kiai Said.

Responding to the statement made by Kiai Said, Minister Nadiem said that he was committed to accommodating every input from PBNU in improving the rules that he signed last September. Minister Nadiem was grateful because NU was willing to convey aspirations and provide recommendations to improve them.

"Alhamdulillah. I do appreciate and thank PBNU for the support and input of this regulation. Even with a few notes, I am committed to accommodating it," he said.

Then, regarding the proposed improvement for the policy, he admitted, he would not reject any aspirations from the community or other Islamic organizations.

"I will come and listen to one by one input from religious organizations, students, lecturers and from campus institutions," said Minister Nadiem.
